27 May 2011 On the meeting with Belarus children in Terschelling On May 25, 2011 the counsellor of the Embassy met with a group of the Belarusian children from the cities of Byhov and Oktiabrski of Gomel oblast of Belarus.
The group of children accompanied by teachers has been staying in the Netherlands from May 4, 2011 till July 3, 2011 for recuperation. The project is carried out by a charitable organization Stichting Kinderen Tsjernobyl Terschelling. Since 1996 the foundation has been successfully working with Belarus, having long-term stable contacts and organizing regular visits of Belarusian children to the Netherlands. Actually, Terschelling is receiving the twelfth group Belarusian children.
During the meeting the talks were held with the SKTT chairman Mr. Paul Logemann and members of the fondation, the Wethouder of Terschelling Mr. Teun de Jong, as well as with children and their teachers. The sincere gratitude was expressed to the foundation and hosting families for the selfless help, as well as the hope for further cooperation between Belarus and the Netherlands in matters of minimizing the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.
In the evening of May 25, 2011 at the site of the Sport Club Terschelling Midsland a football match was held between the children of the Sport Club Terschelling and a selection of children from Belarus. The match was a tough struggle and ended in a draw, and the followed penalty shoot-out was won by the Belarusian team, which got the cup. Football game was covered by regional media.
